We at For Better Community are shocked and appalled by the recent events in Minneapolis and the death of Georges Floyd. We know that Georges Floyd is the latest name on a long list of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) to be public victims of racism, discrimination, police brutality and oppression. What has happened to Georges Floyd, and the many that came before him, is inexcusable and will not be tolerated.
Enough is enough.
For Better Community stands with BIPOC in our collective effort to raise voices, demand justice and seek to tear down racist and oppressive structures that have led to the deaths, incarcerations and maltreatment of vulnerable groups. A vast component of our work is to do just that: educate, empower and embolden communities, while working with those oppressive mindsets and frameworks that have held these communities in dire need, and to seek change that is desperately needed.
Furthermore, we reject any military and police violence against peaceful protestors. Right to peaceful assembly, right to free speech, and the right to peaceful protest is a fundamental pillar of any healthy democracy, and the silencing of those voices seeking to make constructive change, whether by elected officials or military personnel, is unacceptable, inhumane and unconstitutional.
For further education, we have compiled these resources. We welcome all questions and concerns.
